35 Years of Homegrown Press

John has been busy creating a 16 painting exhibit of paintings hilighting his experience enjoying the Oregon coast in 2025.

We hope you'll see something you like.

Back to our roots

Started in 1987, screen printing T-shirts on the fly in parking lots and hotel rooms on Dead tour, Homegrown Press didn't have a name until 1991, when John married his wife, who gives this website, and his life, form, function and grace. They have two grown sons they love dearly.

John learned to carve linoleum block prints at University of Kentucky, then wood engraving at the annual Larkspur Press workshop. He is happy to get back to printmaking to make work that is more accessible to more people. New blocks are being carved for the new year.

A t-shirt of his logo has been created and is for sale in his store!

John Lackey opens his studio for showings occasionally, and the door is generally open when he is working there. His work is split between block prints (mostly natural subjects), small abstract paintings (flowing, colorful), and large landscape paintings in his signature style. The large landscapes are gorgeous, mostly Kentucky subjects. He blends the realism of light, reflections, water, and atmosphere with surrealist embellishments in a truly masterful way.
